The Taiwan International Fisheries & Seafood Show (TIFSS) 2016 took place from November 9 to 11 at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The event, themed "green fishery and sustainable resource", advocated that entrepreneurs should run businesses with a viewpoint as managers of fishery resources and promote friendly fishing methods as well as sustainable aquaculture.

This year the organizer set up the Marine Biotechnology Area for the first time. Exhibiting countries at the international area included Japan, renowned for its high-tech cultivation techniques and sea ranching, Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Moreover, for the first time seven countries located in the South Pacific Ocean region participated in the form of a joint pavilion. In total, the show attracted over 5,000 professionals from home and abroad.

In addition, to assist local grouper cultivators with expanding their international market, the organizer invited five major buyers from Brazil, South Africa, Vietnam, and Singapore to visit the show and purchase frozen grouper cuts. Among them, Ayamo SA Ltda from Brazil was very satisfied with the good quality of Taiwan’s grouper cultivation.

The Taiwan International Fisheries & Seafood Show brought together exhibitors from 21 countries. Among the foreign exhibitors, KMC from Korea was pleased with the plentiful results and expects to enlarge their exhibit next year, while ULKA Seafoods from India met with target buyers and major customers from China and Japan. Qatar exhibited at the show for the first time and Prince Fareh led the delegation in person to learn in-depth of Taiwan's marine life propagation techniques. On the domestic side, the Fisheries Agency of the Council of Agriculture and the Marine Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government also exhibited at the show and both gave highly positive comments on the outcome of the exhibition.

Taking place in conjunction with the Fisheries & Seafood Show was the Taiwan Aquaculture Industry Trends Seminar. Dr. Huey-Lang Yang, a distinguished professor of the National Cheng Kung University Aquatic Animal Bio-Medicine R&D Team, gave a keynote speech on the topic “Sustainable Grouper Farming: Bottleneck, Key Technology and Opportunity”. Shirlene Maria Anthonysamy from the renowned Asian fishery magazine INFOFISH gave a talk on the "Trend in Seafood Markets in Asia", and Mr. Caesar Hsiao, Product Line Manager for APAC's Marine Division, introduced in-depth the Advanced Fish Finder and Radar Technology.
