Taiwan's annual IT Month, a popular 3C event, kicked off in Taipei at TWTC Exhibition Hall 1 during December 3–11, 2016. As in previous years, the event brought together major computer and communication brands from home and abroad, with a total of 275 companies occupying 1,350 booths.
The 2016 IT Month, themed "technology being my company", was categorized into six pavilions: a central theme pavilion, government pavilion, Make X Future pavilion (robotics), mobile payment pavilion, innovation and creativity pavilion, and living technology pavilion. The event focused on three main trends—VR (virtual reality), robotics, and IoT—and demonstrated a variety of technical applications such as wearable devices, smart home, pet technologies, food technologies, and more. Major VR and AR (augmented reality) device companies such as Oculus, hTC VIVE, 3Glasses, Samsung Gear VR, Cardboard 2, and Epson exhibited during IT Month, giving visitors a comprehensive chance to experience virtual reality combined with VR devices and software.
At the Make X Future pavilion, 48 robotic devices designed for use in daily lives were displayed, demonstrating how robots, IoT, and wearable devices could work together. Eye-catching robots included robotic devices for lower limb rehabilitation purposes that help patients able to walk; nursing robotic devices can move patients easily, a barrier-free tracking robot with night vision, a "seeing" robotic arm with learning capabilities, and other industrial and service-type robotic devices. In particular, a robot for keeping children company called ibotn was displayed for the first time. This domestically developed robot was design to automatically move and interact with infants, children, and their parents by talking, dancing, and singing.
