Reporting on positive developments in the FMD situation, the representative of the European Communities stated that the United Kingdom had been officially declared FMD free without vaccination by the Office International des Epizooties on 21 January 2002. As such, all 15 member States of the European Union were free of FMD – including those member States which had been affected by the outbreak in early 2001.
