I. INTRODUCTION
1.As requested at the Working Party's meeting of 10 February 2006, this Note provides an update of the previous Secretariat's synthesis of views expressed in the Working Party with respect to the definition of subsidy (JOB(05)/4). For the sake of clarity and transparency, the update is in the form of an addendum; it should therefore be read together with JOB(05)/4.

2.This addendum covers the contributions and discussions in the Working Party since the circulation of the original Note, i.e., 26 January 2005. Since it proceeds on the same basis, the approach and parameters spelled out in JOB(05)/4 are equally valid here. Again, the intention is not to reflect each and every facet of the discussion, but to summarize the main substantive views expressed. Neither does the Note wish to imply any form of consensus on the issues, in particular given that many delegations have not expressed views on specific aspects of the definition and others have done so in a preliminary manner.

3.The Note focuses on specific views and comments concerning possible elements of a definition, as opposed to more general comments.
