The Taiwan Pavilion at the Photonics West Exhibition strives for business opportunities in North America

SPIE Photonics W is the world's major conference and exhibition event in the field of optoelectronics. Held February 5-7, 2019 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, USA, about 1,350 exhibitors participated in the event and more than 23,000 professionals attended. The exhibition is hosted by the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), a global authority for optoelectronic and laser applications. Founded in 1955, SPIE is a renowned professional society dedicated to the research and application of optics, photonics and electronics. The international non-profit organization serves approximately 264,000 members from 166 countries worldwide.


This exhibition focused on global indicator photoelectrics and offered high-end technical seminars, publication of papers, and new product presentations, aiming to highlight global optoelectronic technology trends. The three-day gathered 23,000 professionals, 1,300 exhibitors and featured more than 200 product presentations. As a result of the event, 5,000 papers will be published, covering a range of topics such as biomedical, laser, and optoelectronics micro-manufacturing, optical micro-electromechanical, and more.


In assisting Taiwanese companies to seize opportunities in the US optoelectronics market, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, International Trade Bureau commissioned the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to organize the Taiwan Pavilion, which showcased Jasper Display, Asia Optical, YOUNG Optics, Wavetek Microelectronics, Hong-Ming Technology, Turning Point Laser and the Center for Micro/Nano Science and Technology NCKU. These seven exhibitors displayed various optical materials and components such as optical lenses, MicroLED display, wavelength-tunable light source system, micro-lens array, high power fiber laser module and micro/Nano inspection and analysis service.


YOUNG Optics participated in the exhibition for the first time. The company focuses on the design, manufacturing and mass production of optical modules and optical components. Optical components and micro-projection modules were exhibited at the event, and smart homes were actively explored. In terms of the car market, the product launch attracted a lot of buyers to stop and ask questions, demonstrating popularity among the buyers.


Jasper Display demonstrated its LCD spatial light modulator LCoS-SLM, micro LED starter kit, digital modulation and advanced backplane technology to a large number of customer groups. The exhibition achieved very good results for the company.


Asia Optical is the world's largest optical component factory. It has been deeply involved in the field of optics for many years and has a complete vertical integration of products and technologies. With the rapid growth of the automotive and optical communications market, the event attracted many target customers, resulting in highly-anticipated future business opportunities.


The exhibition industry includes optoelectronic components, optical components, optical communications and applications. These products are widely used in consumer electronics such as home TVs, projectors, monitors, smart handheld devices, and industrial lasers. From precision processing, optoelectronic semiconductor industry, smart factories, image monitoring, optical lens, optical fiber communications to biomedical optoelectronics, and more, its core components or application services cover optical optoelectronic technology, and it is estimated that the Internet of Vehicles and smart phones will become its next two important applications.


In today’s technological world, modern life and technology are intertwined. Optoelectronic application technology products are everywhere in our daily lives, such as in lighting, smart phones, car networking, fiber optic communications, and more. Future advanced technologies will require high-end visual technologies to respond. For example, home robots can use lenses to scan indoor space, drones can automatically avoid obstacles, and smart factory production lines require cameras for 3D object recognition, flaw detection, and item grabbing. Therefore, emerging technologies in the field of optoelectronics have promoted the vigorous development of the global technology industry.


In 2020, the Photonics West Exhibition will be held in San Francisco February 4-6. The Taiwan Pavilion will be organized by the Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA). TAITRA will assist in handling related activities in order to showcase the advanced technologies and excellent products of Taiwanese manufacturers, and strive for business opportunities in the Americas.
