2021-09-09

The joint conference was an important platform for exchanges between enterprises from both sides. Director General Cynthia Kiang of Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) in her opening remarks said that the conference was the most important dialogue channel for companies from both countries. They used this platform to discuss various emerging industry cooperation topics and shared business opportunities. We look forward to the establishment of close cooperative relations between Taiwan and Korean enterprises, Director General Kiang said.

She also mentioned that countries now face an ever-changing international environment due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and shortage of raw materials. Taiwan will be more committed to having partnerships with countries of similar values and mindsets. Taiwan-Korea relations will grow closer through the strengthening of economic and trade cooperation.

In the conference, Taiwan's SEMI and Korea's Semiconductor Industry Association, plus smart city, biotechnology and pharmaceutical promoters all said that Taiwan and Korea had a highly complementary relationship. They also expressed their aspirations for further cooperation. Business representatives from both sides also looked forward to the signing of an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion and the Bilateral Investment Agreement. The latter is meant to protect the rights of investors from both sides.
