2021 U.S. Business Day

2021-10-06

This year, the US Business Day celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the American State Offices Association (ASOA) co-organized the U.S. Business Day to bolster economic cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S. across different levels.

Two MOUs were signed by Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) Director General Kiang separately with the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) and the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), with common goals of assisting businesses to relocate and encourage more trade and investment activities. In addition, The US Government Procurement Business Opportunity Seminar and Taiwan-US 5G Investment and Trade Forum were launched, sought to connect Taiwanese companies with U.S. infrastructure opportunities.

Department of Commerce's Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Steffens said in his remarks that Taiwan is a trustworthy partner, and hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the post-pandemic era.

AIT Commercial Section Chief Brent Omdahl said that trade between Taiwan and the U.S. has grown. In 2020, bilateral trade in goods exceeded those with America's traditional trading partners such as Italy and the Netherlands.

More than 35 state representatives, including Idaho Governor Brad Little, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon expressed their unwavering support and elaborated infrastructure business opportunities through video messages, showing how friendly relations between Taiwan and the U.S. extended from the federal to the state governments.
