Reminder to operators on the Update of Specially Designated National List by the U.S. Department of the Treasury
On May 8, 2018, the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and subsequently re-imposed sanctions against Iran on November 5, 2018. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has published additional frequently asked questions (FAQs) with respect to the re-imposition of these sanctions, and listed more than 700 sanction designations (about 26 individuals, 394 entities, 67 aircraft, and 199 vessels) into the Specially Designated Nationals List (SDN). The subjects on the SDN list entries are subject to Secondary Sanctions, which would freeze their assets in the U.S. and block their transactions.
To avoid violating relevant prohibitions of the U.S. and subsequently affecting your rights, we remind operators to pay more attention to the identity of transaction parties, and conduct due diligence investigations prior to making transactions.
