In order to meet the corporate needs for trade talent, as well as encourage students to challenge themselves and take up internships abroad, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has conducted the Global Trade Pioneer Project for 6 consecutive years, which cultivates prospective talents who will explore emerging markets. This Project provides scholarships to eligible students studying international trade or related fields to do internships in emerging markets overseas.

The Global Trade Pioneer Project has long been widely recognized by participating corporations, academics, and students. In 2019, 150 students from 24 universities were selected to take part in internships in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and the Philippines.

To motivate students and enhance their sense of honour, the Flag Presentation Ceremony and Pre-departure Orientation were held on 31 May at the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei. Approximately 150 participants, comprising representatives from corporations and foreign representative offices in Taipei, as well as students and instructors, were invited to attend.

At the Flag Presentation Ceremony, Chief of Staff Nick K. Ni of the Bureau of Foreign Trade presented a flag to 6 students and expressed his warmest wishes for success and safety during their stay abroad. At the Pre-departure Orientation, representatives from internship companies and other specialists with experience living abroad were invited to explain security precautions in foreign countries and wish every student a joyful experience during their internships.
