Taiwan-Thailand Economic Relations
In 2018, bilateral trade between our two countries under the New Southbound Policy to 10.75 billion US dollars. Thus, Thailand is Taiwan’s 12th largest trading partner while Taiwan is Thailand’s 11th largest. This indicates that bilateral economic and trade exchanges are robust and prosperous.
In August 2018, the "Taiwan EXPO" was held in Bangkok to promote exchanges in the fields of industry, education, tourism, and culture. It attracted more than 30,000 visitors and will certainly create more opportunities for future cooperation between Taiwanese and Thailand companies.
According to BOI statistics, Taiwan’s cumulative investment in Thailand between 1959 and 2018 amounted to 14.6 billion US dollars, making Taiwan the 3rd largest investor in Thailand after Japan and the U.S. Taiwan’s major investments in Thailand are in electronics, chemicals, textiles, architecture, transportation, jewelry, food, rubber, etc.
To further deepen collaboration between our respective industries, the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) of Taiwan and the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) held the 2018 Taiwan-Thailand Industrial Collaboration Summit in Taipei on June, 2018 with support from the governments of Taiwan and Thailand. This summit was an industry-led event, attended by government officials and industry leaders to discuss collaboration in the fields of Bio Food, Textile, Automation and Smart City.
