Overview of Bilateral Trade

Sri Lanka is Taiwan's 54th trading partner and 42th export partner. Bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Taiwan recorded US$365.37 million in 2019, which is a decrease of 22.61% compared to 2018. Taiwanese exports to Sri Lanka reached US$307.4 million, decreasing 24.15%, whereas Sri Lankan exports to Taiwan amounted to US$57.97 million, increasing 13.22%.

 

Overview of Bilateral Investment

At present, investments made by Taiwanese companies in Sri Lanka total around US$6,992,000. Main areas of investment include textile industry, garment manufacturing, food manufacturing, and transportation facilities manufacturing and repairing.

 

Future Outlook

Sri Lanka's demand for various commodities has increased rapidly over recent years. Taiwanese companies could take advantage of the opportunities arising from this trend to further explore areas of cooperation between Taiwan and Sri Lanka.
