Taiwan, US Business Groups Ink Joint Statement Calling for a Bilateral Trade Agreement

On September 9, Minister Wang witnessed the signing of a joint statement between the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei and the Chinese National Association of Industry & Commerce to support a US-Taiwan Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

In Minister Wang’s remarks at the ceremony, she made particular mention of the projected strengthening of supply chain relationship between the US and Taiwan over the backdrop of the US-China trade friction as well as the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ three action plans to facilitate investments in Taiwan, particularly relevant for US businesses wishing to continue their operations in the Asia-Pacific.

Taiwan’s recent show of determination to solve the long-standing US beef and pork barrier to a US-Taiwan BTA and the country’s protection of IPR, pool of talents, comprehensive supply chains and democratic values makes it a welcome destination for investors and a ready signatory to a formal trade agreement with the US.
