The BOFT of the MOEA reiterates that export labeling is handled in accordance with current regulations

2022-08-15

The media has mistakenly stated that the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has no objection to the labeling change and will coordinate with the Customs Administration. The MOEA has clearly expressed that exports of domestic products should be labeled in accordance with the provisions of Taiwan's Regulations Governing Export of Commodities, or labeled similarly in a foreign language. Customs checks whether the labels meet these regulations when exporters apply for customs clearance.

Therefore, it is incorrect to state that the MOEA has no objection and will coordinate with customs. The MOEA and the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) handle all procedures in accordance with the law. These regulations have been implemented for many years, and the exporters are well aware of them.

If Taiwanese companies exporting goods to China encounter detainment of exports by China's Customs because the goods or declaration documents are required to be labeled or marked as "Made in Taiwan, China," they are encouraged to provide the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) with relevant information, such as the customs ports, importers, customs brokers, and descriptions of goods. Then, the Customs Administration under the MOF will contact China's Customs to deal with the situation.
