The WTO has reported that the UN’s 2020 High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is scheduled to be held from July 7 to July 16. This forum is the main outreach platform for all UN members and specialized agencies to discuss progress on achieving SDGs.

The WTO issues an annual report on its efforts to help the HLPF achieve trade-specific targets in the SDGs. In this year’s report, the WTO emphasized that trade, fiscal and monetary policies are the keys to supporting the sustainable development of the global economy, and called on the world to maintain open trade so as to foster economic recovery and development during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the report emphasized the necessity for governments of all countries to help least developed countries engage in global trade and jointly achieve SDGs.
