The online seminar “TechnologyStartupsPost-COVID-19: How Does It All Fit,” organized by the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association and sponsored by the Bureau of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, was held on June 8, 2020.

The webinar, co-chaired by Dr. Joses Hsiung, President of Winnoz Technology and Mr. Yi-Keng Fu, Manager of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), hosted talks from four speakers representing the biotech, technology, and healthcare sectors, as well as a liquid sample testing company concerning Taiwan’s technological applications in epidemic information distribution, public health practices and medical care. Applications discussed at the webinar included the internet for health management, eye-tracking interfaces for healthcare and other uses, accurate and rapid liquid sample testing of raw materials, and machine learning to assist diagnoses.

Deputy Director-General Chih-hung Liu of the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) stated that one of the keys to Taiwan’s effective control of COVID-19 has been the use of technological applications, such as the mask distributors map, the eMask pre-purchase system, and the epidemic warning cell broadcasts. During the "post-pandemic period," as many countries gradually ease lockdown restrictions, international cooperation is crucial for research on treatments, vaccines, and testing, as well as the planning of effective post-lockdown measures. With the help of "technology," we are better positioned to emerge triumphant over this pandemic. Mr. Liu also mentioned in his remarks that he looked forward to joining hands together in technological exchanges and international cooperation for the common welfare of people throughout the world.

A total of 124 people from Taiwan, the USA, the Czech Republic, and Germany, among other countries, registered for this event. The BOFT looks forward to concrete international cooperation projects arising from such events and the great business opportunities they will generate for industries.
