The 6th Taiwan-Finland Trade Talk was recently held through videoconference, during which discussions covered a variety of issues including AI, 5G & 6G, cybersecurity, the circular economy, energy and market access. An MOU on the promotion of bilateral investment was also signed at this 28 September (2020) meeting to strengthen investment, industrial cooperation and promote business opportunities.
The co-chair from the Taiwanese side, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, Chern-Chyi Chen highlighted the potential for both sides to cooperate in education, the circular economy and renewable energy, particular as these are areas valued by both Finland and Taiwan.
The co-chair from the Finnish side, Under Secretary of State Mr. Petri Peltonen affirmed the positive result of existing cooperation, including the long-term foundation for 5G and 6G collaboration. He cited MediaTek’s R&D center in Finland and Finland’s joint research with the National Taipei University of Technology and the National Taiwan University, as examples of Taiwan being an important partner to Finland in those areas.
