On May 24, 2021, the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) announced affirmative final determinations in the antidumping (AD) investigations of passenger vehicle and light truck tires (passenger tires) imported from South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The DOC determined that Taiwanese companies had dumped passenger tires in the United States at rates of 20.04 to 101.84 percent.

Since the DOC announced its preliminary determinations at the end of last year, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) met with relevant industrial companies and associations several times to seek ways to prepare and respond to the possible developments of this case.

Furthermore, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States will attend a hearing held by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on May 25 on behalf of the government of Taiwan. It will express statements urging the ITC to conclude that the domestic U.S. tire industry had not suffered material injury by reason of tire imports from Taiwan.
