Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa and Taiwan's fifth largest trading partner in Africa. The Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and the Nigeria Trade Office in Taiwan jointly organized a series of events for the 2021 Nigeria Taiwan Week, creating opportunities for business cooperation between Taiwan and Nigeria. The Nigeria Taiwan Week consisted of a business forum, online exhibitions, and procurement meetings.
The BOFT announced in the opening ceremony that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, an online exhibition hall had been set up for Nigeria Taiwan Week activities. The exhibition hall displayed more than 200 products, including auto parts, machinery, halal products and medical equipment. The BOFT expects that the series of events will provide a good platform for technological and cultural exchanges among companies from both sides.
Meanwhile, with the goal of establishing Nigeria as the halal hub for Africa, the first international Halal Expo Nigeria 2021 was held in the Nigerian capital Abuja. A Taiwan Pavilion was set up to display Taiwanese halal products, such as food, cosmetics, and healthcare. Through an online-offline marketing (OMO) format, dedicated staff helped with product promotion and exposure, while inviting buyers to meet virtually with Taiwanese enterprises.
