Minister without Portfolio, John Deng (seated, 6th from left); Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, DC, Stanley Kao (seated, 7th from left); Acting Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Commerce, Ian Steff (seated, 5th from left); Director General Jen-Ni Yang (seated, 4th from left) and Taiwan's delegation.

In view of the fact that the US is Taiwan's second largest trade partner and our major source of technology, Taiwan participated again in the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, DC in June, this year (2019). The summit this year focused on four major industries: advanced manufacturing, digital economy, biotechnology, as well as agriculture and food.

Taiwan's delegation was comprised of 112 representatives from 54 enterprises and 4 industrial associations. Participants came from the steel, advanced manufacturing, electronics, biotechnology, electricity and petrochemical industries, which corresponded well to the summit's four industry themes. Through attending this annual summit, we hope to build a tighter connection with the US and help Taiwan’s industries stay competitive in the global economy.
