To help Taiwanese businesses continue their market expansions in New Southbound Policy countries during the pandemic, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) of the Ministry Economic Affairs has been holding the Taiwan Expo 2020 online from October this year. So far, four Expos have been held, in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The most recent Expo in Malaysia connected to Kuala Lumpur from the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2 on November 25, 2020.
The 2020 Taiwan Expo Malaysia was the largest-scale online exhibition held this year. Seven industry themes and 13 pavilions at the expo covered Taiwan food, lifestyle and fashion, cutting-edge healthcare, ICT smart applications, Industry 4.0 and Taiwan tourism as well as a special area dedicated to the halal industry. Around two hundred Taiwanese businesses met with close to 300 Malaysian buyers in over 1000 virtual one-on-one business negotiations.
The BOFT states that this year’s expo showcased tea culture, agricultural biotechnology and souvenirs in a pavilion that combined the forces of Kaohsiung City and Chiayi City. This special pavilion featured the specific styles and tourist attractions of the two cities to promote Taiwan’s trade and deepen bilateral cooperation in areas such as e-commerce and halal. Presenting Taiwan’s culture and lifestyle to our Malaysian friends at the expo form part of the overall effort to boost bilateral trade.
In order to create new highlights to Taiwan's economy, the BOFT is also actively promoting digital transformations. Through the online Taiwan Expos, the BOFT continues to help businesses seize the opportunity to expand overseas markets and increase Taiwan’s visibility to international buyers.
