Trade
Bilateral trade between Japan and Taiwan totaled US$88.2 billion in 2022 (3.39% increase), of which Japan’s exports to
Taiwan amounted to US$54.6 billion (2.71% decrease), and Taiwan’s exports to Japan amounted to US$33.6 billion (15.10%
increased). Japan is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner, and Taiwan is Japan’s fourth-largest trading partner.
Taiwan’s main export items to Japan include integrated circuits, memory hardware, polyethylene terephthalate, mechanical
parts, turbojet engines, processors and controllers, steel products, etc.
Investment
According to the statistics from the Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Japan is Taiwan’s
fourth-largest source of foreign investment. From 1952 to 2022, cumulative investment numbered 11,654 cases, for a
cumulative value of approximately US$25.8 billion. The investment is mainly involved in the machinery equipment,
electronic components and parts, electrical equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, retailing and service, and finance
and insurance industries.
