International Forum on Taiwan Bubble Tea


In order to continue assisting Taiwanese bubble tea businesses expand into global markets, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs recently joined forces with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) in holding the 2020 Taiwan Bubble Tea International Forum on October 6, 2020.

Participants at the event heard study results and business strategy analyses from the Food Industry Research and Development Institute and the Taipei Tea Merchants Association. Businesses including LAKAFFA International (brand name - Chatime), Chen En Food Product Enterprise and Yummy Town (brand name - Happy Lemon) also shared their experience setting up shop in North America, Southeast Asia, and Japan as well as how they are changing their tactics with COVID-19.

Close to 90 buyers from 23 countries viewed the livestream which was broadcasted in both Japanese and English. The event also attracted positive attention from buyers in Kazakhstan and Nepal for the first time. A total of 122 beverage businesses from Taiwan and abroad participated in the event.

Ms. Wan-Jung Day, Secretary General of the BOFT mentioned in her opening remarks that although Taiwan is densely populated with most farmers being small-scale farmers, our agricultural produce and food industries are very highly developed. In particular, our bubble tea businesses’ innovation, R&D, and high quality processing in creating diverse favors are winning the hearts of international consumers alike.

Although this year has been affected by COVID-19, Japan, the US, Korea and Malaysia continue to be important markets for Taiwanese bubble tea. The BOFT will continue to expand digital marketing activities, such as online procurement sessions and online food exhibitions to help our bubble tea makers prosper overseas.
